The City of Tuscola mourns the passing of former Alderman Boyd Henderson
Boyd Henderson was a Tuscolian through and through! Boyd served the city as Clerk for 4 years and as alderman for a total of 32 years. During his tenure, many important initiatives were undertaken including, the purchase of the water company, implementation of Tax Increment Financing, development of the outlet mall and construction of two wastewater treatment plants. To honor his many years of service, Mayor Kleiss proclaimed the pavilion at Ervin Park named in his honor during his 2017 retirement council meeting. While his time on City Council is impressive, and much was accomplished, perhaps Boyd’s best legacy is his contribution to the memorializing of Tuscola’s history. Besides serving on the committee that actually wrote Tuscola’s history book in 2007, Boyd made it his mission to ensure local stories were enshrined in our collective memories. Anytime a question came up at City Hall about Tuscola’s past, if no answer was quickly found, the answer was always, “Ask Boyd”. Whether he showed up at City Hall, met you on the street or visited with you “down at the Ford Garage”, Boyd always had an answer! His contributions to the City and its history will be missed! Rest in Peace Councilman Henderson!
